About the Authors

Robert Keith Wallace, Ph.D.

Dr. Wallace is one of the “fathers” of mind-body medicine. Dr. Wallace received a B.S. in Physics, and in 1970 his Ph.D. in Physiology from UCLA. While he was still a graduate student, his groundbreaking research on the physiological effects during the Transcendental Meditation technique was published in 1970 in Science, probably the most prestigious scientific journal in the world. This research shocked the scientific community but eventually led to the widespread acceptance of meditation in the Western world.

Subsequent research by Dr. Wallace on higher states of consciousness has been published in Scientific American and the American Journal of Physiology, among other publications (a complete list of Dr. Wallace’s publications is available).

Over the years, Dr. Wallace has been one of the closest scientific advisers to His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, whose programs are the subject of Victory Before War.  Dr. Wallace was the initial president of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa (formerly named Maharishi International University), and is currently chairman of that university’s Department of Physiological and Biological Sciences, and co-director of the doctoral programs in Neuroscience and Physiology. Dr. Wallace introduced Ayurvedic medicine to the scientific community in the U.S. as a founding director and the President of Maharishi Ayurveda Corporation of America.

Dr. Wallace has traveled throughout the world (Russia, China, Japan, the Philippines, Egypt, South America, Europe, etc.) to explain the research on the Vedic peace technologies to the scientific community and to heads of state, including the research on how these programs can be used to prevent terrorism.

Dr. Wallace’s prior books are The Neurophysiology of Enlightenment, and ThePhysiology of Consciousness, both published by Maharishi University of Management Press. Dr. Wallace resides in Fairfield, Iowa. He is married and has three children. Dr. Wallace has been practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique since the mid 1960s. He learned the Yogic Flying technique in 1975.
